Shock Advertising Leaves Me In Tears

I watched a show on the news last regarding Shock Advertising. It showed little specks of videos that are starting to become commercials and I immediately jumped on to you tube to start referencing these videos myself. By the end I had tears streaming down my cheeks. In the mist of 4 videos I was left scared, disgusted, revolted, mad, angry, and heart broken.

The images I had seen were not only true, but in some real.

A long time ago I showed you the video on the texting teens that crash.
If you haven’t seen it here it is:

It’s long but worth it. If I had a teen they’d be sitting down and watching it.

Then shortly after I remember seeing this one about Domestic Abuse starring Kiera Knightley:

I was left horrified and mad. Then my mind flashed to a blogger that has been through domestic abuse that I am close to and I was so sad. My heart broke that someone could do something like that. To someone they loved.

Then last night I saw this one for the first time. It’s about Smoking Moms and quitting. Forget about that part. It’s not what the actual video was about. Its about a little boy. Gavin’s age to be exact. This is real. Mother and son.
It’s a controlled environment so the little boy is clearly not lost but in his mind he is.

I was left balling. The look in the little boys eyes was ripped my heart out of my chest and I wanted to help. Every now and then I’ll be in a store with Gavin and he’ll let go of my hand for a moment to look at something. I’ll never let him out of my sight but he hasn’t realized I’ve moved and that moment of panic sets in and I have to say I’m right here.
I don’t know how as a Mom you can agree to do this to your child.

At the end of the day it doesn’t matter what you thought of it because they have succeeded regardless if we like it or not. We’re talking about it. We’re thinking about it. We didn’t just skip over and go onto the next thing. They caught our attention because of the shock value.
Is it justified? Maybe. Will help? Maybe
Do I agree in “controlled environments” for young children to get a reaction. No.

What do you think about this form of advertising?
What is your response? Were you left emotional?
